In 2007, the "beautiful but challenging" 6.7 mile course was shortened to 6.1 miles to take out the first hill, a real lung-burner. Some runners were thankful, others rued the loss of the challenge and consolidated start/finish.

The 2008 course has been changed to introduce runners to more of the scenic vistas and carriage roads of the National Park, while keeping intact the favorite features of the course: soft carriage trails, the loop around the Pogue (14 acre pond), the South Peak overlooking Woodstock Village and the gentle 1.8 mile downhill to the finish.

The new start is on the western edge of the park off Prosper Road (the preferred start among local runners). A new area is the pine needle path through a stand of red spruce trees, opening up to a meadow with views to Mt. Ascutney to the south.

The point-to-point course means we will be bussing runners to the start from the parking area and taking their clothes back to the finish. We don’t mind, hope you don’t.

The official estimate of the new course length is 6.1 miles.
